Abstract

When carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates are used in strengthening long structural members, lap splicing is usually adopted for the transition of forces. Determination of the effective lap splice length and its fatigue performance is of importance. This study shows that by conducting static and repeated tension tests on CFRP coupon specimens, the strength change and effective lap splice length can be determined. Based on the results, recommendations are made for strengthening concrete structures with lap-spliced CFRP laminates.
