Abstract

This paper explores the historical and epistemic dimensions of the famous Syiir Li Khamsatun phenomenon in the Javanese Muslim community to deal with the Covid- 19 pandemic. The poem that simply contained the lamentation and sadness of the followers of Ali, the 4th caliph after the Prophet, now reappeared in Muslim societies who were lamenting the destruction of the social, economic, cultural, and religious systems caused by the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) pandemic. The sad tones of Syiir Li Khamsatun strengthen the solidarity of Muslims for the occurrence of the disaster, war, plague, and even defeat. The poem strongly indicates the existence of spiritual leaders who always protect them all the time. The poem can also be used as evidence that the social facts of Covid-19 are no longer sufficiently scrutinized from a rational and health perspective, but can also be seen as a phenomenon of the Muslim community's response to the plague (Covid-19) based on the history of Muslim experience with a set of irfani truths and this also confirms that Religion always shows its characteristic existence in the dynamics of society.
