Abstract

In this work, three lanthanide complexes with 2,2-dimethylglutarate (22glu) and 3,3-dimethylglutarate (33glu), namely [Sm2(µ3-22glu)(µ4-22glu)(µ3-OH)2(H2O)]·H2O (1), [Pr2(µ3-33glu)(µ3-33glu)2(H2O)3]·3H2O (2) and [Gd(µ4-33glu)(µ4-33glu)2]·2H2O (3), were synthesized under hydro(solvo)thermal conditions and structurally characterized by powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric measurements. Lanthanide ions bridged by 2,2- or 3,3-dimethylglutarate ligands in tridentate and tetradentate coordination modes form 2D layer structures for 1–3. Structural analyses revealed that complexes 1 and 2 crystallize in the triclinic system, P1¯ space group, while complex 3 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c. The thermogravimetric analysis of 1–3 is discussed in detail. In addition, the phase purities of the bulk samples were identified by powder X-ray diffraction.
