Abstract

The chemical exchange effects in the proton NMR spectra of solutions containing a lanthanide shift reagent Ln(fod) 3 and the substrate 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME) were studied. The dependence of the exchange rate of DME molecules on the substrate concentration provided information on the mechanisms of this exchange process. With the aid of this information a quantitative analysis of the reactions involved in this exchange could be given. The influence of temperature and DME concentration on the exchange rates of DME molecules and fod ligands in mixtures of La(fod) 3 and Pr(fod) 3 was analyzed. For comparison, mixtures of other Ln(fod) 3 complexes in the presence of DME were also studied.
