Abstract
Rare earth alkoxides catalyze the formation of 2-(carboxymethyl)-2,4-(R),5-(R)-tricarboxy-1,3-dioxolane (1) from l-tartrate and acetylenedicarboxylate. The thermodynamics of complex formation between rare earth cations or calcium cations and (1) was investigated by potentiometry and calorimetry. Structural studies were performed by NMR. Structures for the resulting complexes are reported.
