Abstract

Although computer have been frequently used in the teaching of second languages in traditional educational settings, foreign language teaching at a distance has all but ignored the potential that this medium holds. This article considers the nature of distance education, its students and costs, and presents specific ways in which computers and computer-assisted language learning (CALL) can help remedy some of the difficulties faced by the distance learner of a language. It is discusses the design consideration for CALL.
