Abstract

When cameras replace vehicle mirrors, the camera output is delivered directly to a monitor allowing the driver to have an optimized view of the area behind the vehicle. In knowledge of inputs as the speed and the gear together with specifically developed ADAS algorithms, the image can be used to extract further information. The goal of FICOSA is to develop and integrate various algorithms into a Camera Monitor System (CMS) which supports the driver to avoid collisions and to watch the blind sport area. The system provides information as a transparent dynamic overlay for distances with color depending of the warning flag. The accuracy of our Camera Monitor System is improved by integrating a real-time calibration of the camera’s extrinsic parameters leading to a highly accurate estimation of dynamic objects. The calibration can be further employed to adapt to new vehicle load situations. The reliability and safety is improved by integrating a camera based Soil-/Blockage Detection.
