Abstract

This chapter presents a history of landscape architecture education in P.R. China, through a case study of Sun Xiaoxiang (1921–2018). Professor Sun was among the first generation of modern landscape architects and teachers of the first landscape architecture programme in China. His 70-years career as a landscape practitioner, researcher and educator reflected the development of landscape architecture in China. This chapter investigates Sun’s contribution as an educator, especially his effort on combining Chinese tradition with modern landscape architecture, and his vision of the future of landscape profession.
