Abstract

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) has been a valuable tool for humanitarian demining. The GPR scans the ground and delivers data in which we take information about any kind of buried objects like metallic or plastic landmines. The Bscan is one of GPR delivered data, and represents vertical slice image of the scanned ground. Unfortunately, in addition of the response of buried objects, the GPR records different noises including clutter noise. The clutter occurs at early time of GPR data and blurs the responses of mines buried at shallow depths. The mine detection task becomes more difficult and requires a pre-***processing step of Bscan image to reduce the clutter without losing buried objects responses. In this paper, a new and simple land mines enhancement method based on the wavelet transform is presented. This method should reduce the clutter on Bscan data significantly while protecting the landmine responses. In order to do so, specific orthogonal wavelet decomposition filters are designed and used in two dimensional stationary wavelet transform (2-D SWT). The 2-D SWT is performed to real Bscan data and proved to be efficient.
