Abstract
Karst areas have been undergoing ecological risk and irreversible landscape change induced by the land use, especially in most karst mountainous areas of China. Jinan city, located in the karst geological mountainous area of North China, has heavily experienced rapid urbanization. In this study, land use change dynamics and ecological risk with urbanization in the urban karst mountain area of Jinan city were analyzed using field investigation and thematic mapper images taken in 1987, 2000, and 2016. Results indicate that land use spatial pattern of karst mountainous region in Jinan city has been profoundly changed by rapid urbanization from 1987 to 2016, and the karst geological mountainous area has been facing changes in the study area. During the period of 1987–2000, more than half of karst mountainous region of Jinan city belonging to North China was the lowest and lower ecological risk areas, but the distribution of the highest and higher ecological risk area rapidly increased from 2000 to 2016. Meanwhile, this study also shows that the widespread karst disturbance has been induced by human interaction with karst environments and modern development, thereby resulting in the potential ecological risks for the karst mountainous ecosystem in China.
