Abstract
This article focuses on the fantastic dimensions of the novel Lampedusa as presentedin David Roas’s stimulating essay Tras los límites de lo real. Una definición de lo fantástico(2011). The theoretical framework proposed, based on four essential characteristics(reality, the impossible, fear and language), allows the validation of the notion of thefantastic to Lampedusa, despite the lack of a perfect correspondence to the above-mentionedparameters. We nonetheless identify many sequences in the the novel wherethe «fantastic effect» is identifiable. Possible implications (we have just witnessed one)are sketched in our conclusion to better frame what we call a «novelistic imaginary».
