Abstract

The occurrence of lampbrush chromosomes in teleosts is described for the first time. In young oocytes of the zebrafish, Brachydanio rerio, the lampbrush chromosomes show a very fine structure, so that the cytochemical demonstration for DNA was impossible. RNA precursors are incorporated into all parts of the oocyte nucleus during early stages of oogenesis. Later on, the multiple nucleoli are predominantly labeled.
