Abstract

SummaryImprovements of Flux Vector Splitting (FVS) methods for the Navier-Stokes equations are presented. FVS methods are developed in combination with the well known MUSCL upwind scheme as well as with a hybrid upwind scheme. The hybrid upwind can be used with third or fourth order of accuracy. Flow test cases show that improvement of a modified Steger-Warming FVS as well as of the van Leer FVS can be obtained in viscous flow computations using the combination of the FVS methods with the third order hybrid upwind. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved by an implicit unfactored method using Newton iterations and Gauss-Seidel relaxation. Results are presented both for laminar and turbulent flows.
