Abstract

LaMg2Ni9 has been redetermined from single-crystal diffraction data. The structure is isostructural with the hexagonal PuNi3, in which each Pu atom at the 6c position in space group R-3 m (166) is totally replaced by Mg and each Pu atom in the 3a position of PuNi3 structure is replaced by La to build the new AB2C9 type structure. This structure type can be visualized as built by stacking layers of AB5 (CaCu5) and AB2 (MgCu2, MgZn2 and MgNi2) structural sub units along the c-direction.
