Abstract

In classical mechanics the subject analytical dynamics is concerned with motions of particles and rigid bodies. These physical entities may be represented by mathematical models possessing only a finite number of degrees of freedom in their motions. In this chapter we develop the dynamical theory for certain special systems of particles and rigid bodies. The title Lagrangian mechanics is chosen because the governing equations of motion for such systems are known as Lagrange’s equations.
