Abstract

A LaF3/MgO layer was studied in AC-plasma display panels (PDPs) as a new protective layer in order to obtain a higher secondary electron emission yield than that obtained with the conventional MgO layer. The material characteristics of this protective layer were examined by varying the deposition conditions. It is demonstrated that this LaF3/MgO is effective in enhancing the secondary electron emission yields of PDPs and also in lowering the discharge voltages of the panel.
