Abstract

We could make a medical laser system because the related technologies have been improved since Suzuki announced “Medical Laser distribution system” in 1983, ten years ago. Our system consists of lasers, a distribution device and a controller. They are put in a single table of which size is 1.7m × 1.4m. One laser is a Nd-YAG 150W laser which is used for coagulation and another one is a YAG-SH-Dye laser for PDT, and each is used exclusively for its purpose. Our dye laser is CW type. We got 450mW power in the wavelength a little shorter than 630nm. It has become clear that 40% power of excitation light is missed at its coupling with current optics of Dye laser. We installed tow fibers. One is 32m long and anther is 38m. And we have a plan to install 150m fiber. As the result of the lens coupling of a 5m probe fiber with an installed 38m fiber, transmission efficiency of YAG laser light is 80% at 30W output power at distal end of fiber and then 73% at 94W output. Higher output power of YAG-SHG green laser and optimization of optics are necessary to put PDT fit for practical use with our LADESE system. There seems to be room for improvement in the frequency doubler. The effect of a high pulse rate gold vapor laser is estimated and also the study of PDT effect of Dye pulse laser with 5-6kHz frequency is necessary.
