Abstract

Surgical Procedures: This chapter describes the endoscopic/surgical Ladd’s procedure as performed by the following approaches: open and laparoscopic. The text includes an introduction that outlines the indications, risks, alternatives, essential steps, needed equipment, and variations in technique for the procedure in question. This is followed by a template operative dictation that provides the reader with an operative report, such as that found in a patient chart or electronic medical record. A description is provided of the following critical concepts for this procedure: inspect the bowel for the presence of malrotation, carefully divide Ladd’s bands, place right colon on left side of the abdomen, mobilize duodenum and straighten and direct inferiorly, place small bowel on right side of abdomen, and broaden mesentery.
