Abstract

Experiments with the graded hemorrhage shock model showed a direct relationship between bleeding and intracellular lactate. There was also a linear relationship between intracellular and extracellular lactate concentrations until reinfusion, when an increase in serum lactate with a decrease in intracellular lactate was noted. All elevations in lactate were significantly reduced by the use of vasodilators at strategic intervals.
