Abstract

The lacrimal drainage system consists of the lacrimal puncta, inferior and superior canaliculi, common canaliculus, lacrimal sac, and nasolacrimal duct. It is classically divided into upper and lower portions. Obstruction of the drainage system can be congenital or acquired, and may result in persistent epiphora and mucopurulent discharge. This paper discusses the etiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, and surgical treatment of lacrimal drainage system obstruction.
