Abstract

The immunological activity to ocular antigens has been investigated in dystrophic and normal rats at various stages of age by indirect immunofluorescence and radiometric ear tests. In dystrophic rats, antibodies to rhodopsin, uveal pigment granules or soluble retinal proteins could not be detected, nor was a difference found in cell-mediated immune activity to these antigens between dystrophic and normal rats. The differences between the findings in human retinitis pigmentosa and in rat retinal degeneration are discussed.
