Abstract
A Macintosh graphic user interface for the emulation of multi-channel analysers (MCAS) using the ORTEC range of multi-channel buffers (MCBS) is described. Developed using the instrumentation-oriented LabVIEW graphical programming environment the emulation software employs simulated instrument controls, indicators and displays on the computer screen to depict MCA operation. This makes it simpler and easier to use than software developed for other computers, which is usually command or menu driven. Following an overview of the LabVIEW environment, features included in the software for data acquisition, display, listing, storage and retrieval are described. Details are given of LabVIEW implementation with examples of software instruments developed for programming model 918A MCB. Performance data are presented and some of the problems encountered in developing the software are discussed.
