Abstract

The NDA-II government last year released an early draft of Bill attempting to codify the statutes dealing with industrial relations, ie, Trade Unions Act 1926, Industrial Disputes Act 1947 and Industrial Employment Act 1948. This Labour Code on Industrial Relations Bill, 2015 (hereinafter referred as ‘2015 Bill’), is one of the three labour codes being worked at by the government to consolidate all the important labour law legislations. While the government maintains that the exercise is aimed at consolidating the plethora of legislations, it becomes important to analyse the text of the 2015 Bill when the ruling party’s own affiliate, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, takes part in protests against the proposed Bill. This article aims at highlighting the amendments the NDA-II government intends to bring to industrial relations laws which is aimed at making the provisions more employer-friendly.
