Abstract

A laboratory investigation of inertia forces exerted by water waves on a circular cylindrical pile was conducted. Both the regular and irregular waves generated in the wave tank showed that Morison's coefficients of mass are close to the theoretical value of 2.0 given by Lamb, while the drag component of the total force acting on the pile is negligible for the range of conditions tested.
