Abstract

Laboratory assessment was made with a water-dispersible powder formulation of Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis de Barjac ( Bti). A study was conducted to determine the activity of an industrial formulation of Bti, Bactosec® against third-stage larvae of Aedes aegypti, Anopheles sinensis, Culex pipiens pallens, Cx. pipiens molestus and Ochlerotatus togoi. All five mosquito species were susceptible to the formulation of the Bti formulation. Aedes aegypti showed the most highly susceptible to the formulation with LC 50 of 0.35mg/l followed by Oc. togoi, An. sinensis, Cx. pipiens molestus, and Cx. pipiens pallens with 0.62, 0.86, 1.10, and 1.32 mg/1 in LC 50, respectively. Culex pipiens pallens required 4 times as much as Bti for 90% mortality as did Ae. aegypti and tend to be less susceptible than other mosquitoes. The results indicate that Bactosec® has much potential for the control of medically important mosquitoes in Republic of Korea.
