Abstract

Summary A methodology is presented for evaluating the corrosion resistance of clad equipment in sour environments. This paper describes the laboratory and field test programs used to evaluate the suitability for sour service of gate valves clad with Alloy UNS N06625 by weld overlay and by hot, isostatic pressing (HIP). The laboratory tests used to evaluate corrosion and cracking resistance of the clads are reviewed. Experience with actual field installations of both types of clad valves is presented, and the test/inspection methods used to evaluate the equipment during and after the service period are discussed. Finally, laboratory and field results are compared to highlight key findings related to the clad valve bodies and to the trim components.
