Abstract

1. The Austrian labor market, stable for years, is now also stirring, if without major perturbations, thanks to the methodical endeavors of the Alpine republic to maintain a slow growth. In 1986, there were 151, 972 unemployed (rate 5. 2 percent); in 1987 this figure had risen to only 164, 700 (5. 7 percent). The number of non-self-employed was just over 2. 7 million.
