Abstract

The survival of red blood cells labelled in vitro with radioactive di-iso-propyl-fluorophosphonate (DF32P) was determined in four autotransfusion experiments. The labelling was performed with 0.2 μg of DF32P per ml of red blood cells. The uptake of DF32P was 35–45 %. During the first 24 hours following reinjection of 30–40 ml of the labelled cells the elution of DF32P was 5–10%. After this period, the disappearance, during the period of study (4–7 weeks) was linear at a rate corresponding to a mean life span of 99–125 days.
