Abstract

Intimate partner homicide, considered a social problem, has not been analyzed in Spain in relation to crime scene (CS). The present research addresses the type of violence commited, expressive vs. instrumental, in CS of murders, homicides or attempts and their differences on the basis of the sex of the murderer. Based on a sample of 322 cases extracted from firm judicial rulings by the Violent Crime Analysis Protocol in Family Homicides, forensic awareness, structuring, and criminal behavior were analyzed. The results support previous studies carried out in other countries showing the predominance of expressive behaviors in homicides between members of the couple without any significant differences depending on the offender's gender, even though there is a greater use of the behaviors of stabbing and poisoning in women murderers.
