Abstract
L’étude de l’échange à l’époque médiévale bute sur l’impossibilité de distinguer clairement les transactions relevant de l’échange marchand de celles relevant d’autres formes d’échange. La possession et le transfert de propriété permettent de faire circuler des valeurs, mais aussi d’affecter des rangs à l’intérieur d’une hiérarchie tout en fournissant des objets ayant une utilité pratique.
