Abstract
The methodologies of teaching-learning in higher education centers are experiencing profound changes that also involve changes in the educational organization itself. Technological advances and the Internet have contributed decisively to a more open and interactive learning experience that requires information professionals to adopt new roles to meet the challenges, as well as new behaviors to achieve the commitments required of them. Based on these assumptions and considering their implications, the aim of this paper is to define the new concept of librarian in higher education centers.

Los retos que se plantean a las universidades y, en consecuencia, a sus bibliotecas, implican procesos de remodelación organizacional que, para que tengan éxito, deben realizarse en instituciones donde se reúnan una serie de condiciones que, según Euster (1997), serían: que indiquen claramente la naturaleza de los cambios de conducta necesarios y cómo se van a medir, que proporcionen las herramientas adecuadas para implementar los cambios, que asignen recursos financieros, que rediseñen sus estructuras para que el cambio se integre dentro de las operaciones en curso
Summary
Este trabajo se ha llevado a cabo a través de los datos recogidos en la tesis doctoral presentada en la Universidad de Alcalá, defendida y dirigida respectivamente por los autores (Amante, 2010), del análisis de las opiniones vertidas en diferentes publicaciones de autores, nacionales y extranjeros, con una reconocida trayectoria en el ámbito que nos ocupa, y a través de nuestra propia experiencia personal y contacto diario con los profesionales del sector
