Abstract

The aim of this paper is to trace the history of the manuscript tradition of the Metaphrasis in Theophrastum by the Greek philosopher Priscian of Lydia (6th cent. CE), with a view to constituting a new critical edition of the text. A detailed analysis of the eight extant codices shows that Laur. Plut. 87. 20 is the common ancestor of the others. Nevertheless, Monac gr. 461 should also be given due consideration, since it testifies to Marsilio Ficino’s textual emendations, which are also reflected in his Latin translation of the Metaphrasis.
