Abstract

Several studies have shown that obesity is associated with an increased oxidative and inflammatory stress both in blood samples as well as in adipose tissue. However, there are less studies analyzing the redox state in other organs during obesity. The aim of the study was to analyze the redox state in different organs (lungs, liver and kidney) of adult obese mice, which were fed with a high-fat diet during their adolescence as well as the effect of a dietary supplementation with 2-hydroxyoleic acid or with eicosapentaenoic acid plus docosahexaenoic acid in those mice that received the obesogenic diet. Results show that dietary supplementation with unsaturated fatty acids is able to revert the oxidative stress increase detected in the organs of obese mice, maintaining similar oxidative stress parameters as the ones detected in the control group, which was fed by a standard diet.
