Summary Seven hybrid females Triturus helveticus ♀ x Tr. vulgaris ♂ were mated with vulgaris males and stimulated by means of pituitary transplants; two of them did not ovulate, the others laid eggs, some of which were fecundated, so that they developed. However this second generation showed a very high degree of embryonal letality, and we are still studying about it. The ovaries of three hybrid females, which died during the period of ovulation were examined histologically. They showed an evident inhibition, though to a different degree, with a remarkable reduction in the numebr of the oocytes in the second period of growth.
