Abstract

Abstract At the base of the so-called PII–III series (Late Proterozoic) in the Moroccan western Anti-Atlas, many lenticular quartzitic bodies are embedded within conglomeratic layers. Field observations presented here suggest that the PII–III is an olistostrome that is either conformably or disconformably covered by the PIII Series. On the other hand, the Hercynian deformation is the only compression to have affected the PII–III and PIII. The emplacement of the chaotic ‘PII–III’ series registered the onset of the Late Proterozoic rifting in the Anti-Atlas.
