Abstract

This article aims to open the monograph in this volume of the RASE raising two issues central to sociology: first, the need to further develop the field of sociology faculty, as sociological research space itself, distinct from (but complementary) didactic-pedagogical contributions. Second, and just as a contribution in this direction, the centrality of collecting international debate in development since the 1980s on the professionalism of teachers. Along with these two issues, the monograph also includes other topical issues in international sociological debate about the sociology faculty. In this article, we report some of the central theses that arise in these international discussions, as a state of affairs, to end it with a brief presentation of the articles in the special issue.
