Abstract
This work analyzes the situation of indigenous languages in Mexico, with particular reference to schools located in indigenous communities. Based on the review of specialized bibliography on the subject, we reflect on the problems faced by native languages today, impact reflected in the lack of adequate pedagogical materials and approaches for teaching it, and the negative perceptions both parents and teachers have, even when they are indigenous themselves. This discussion seeks to emphasize the need to generate processes of vindication of indigenous languages in schools, considering the right of children and adolescents to receive quality education with equity in their language. This task requires various actions at different levels and areas in order to guarantee the survival of languages and the rights of indigenous communities.
