Abstract

The aim of the present work is to study the bee symbolism in the anointing of King Wamba, as taken from Julian de Toledo’s chronicle. In order to do this, our work has been divided into three sections. In the first part, we will analyse the symbology of the bee in Greco-Latin and Judaeo-Christian cultures. In the second part we will compare different historiographical points of view about the chronicle of Julian de Toledo. Finally, we will study the evolution of Wamba’s anointing stories and the bee in later medieval chronicles.
