Abstract

The Vaucresson saddle is an active orthesis that is halfway between the molded seat and the verticalization shell. There has been an important evolution during the last years, which has allowed its prescription for children with levels 3 and 4 motor function in Palisano's Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS). Its objectives are both postural and orthopedic. The specifications will be established after a precise assessment of the child's neuromotor and orthopedic disorders. The new proprioception will contribute to the organization of the child's axial reference system. Proprioceptive afferences should therefore be promoted as early as possible in order to have the best results.
