Abstract
This article has a dual focus: we look at both the relations between right-wing extremists in the military (in particular, in the Army) and civil life, and, more specifically, at the internal characteristics of the right-wing military extremist movement. In addition, we raise a question that is difficult to answer: where does one draw the line in ideological terms between a right-wing serviceman and one who is on the extreme right? Another question which immediately arises when one starts to consider the relations between the Armed Forces and the extreme right is: what is, in turn, the relation between the extreme right and militarism in general, and the involvement of the military in politics in particular? In the conclusion, following the analysis carried out in the five sections into which this article is divided, answers are suggested to these and other questions, and lines of further research into the activities of right-wing military extremists in twentieth century Spain are proposed.

En un libro reciente sobre la historia de la extrema derecha en España^, Rodríguez Jiménez sostiene que, entre los rasgos característicos de las familias de la extrema derecha, figura la reclamación «en la mayor parte de los casos, no en el del fascismo, (de) la 'autonomía' del poder militar sobre el civil, argumentando que unas Fuerzas Armadas bien preparadas técnicamente y siempre dispuestas a intervenir en la vida política constituyen la única garantía de la 'seguridad nacional', es decir(,) de la defensa de sus intereses»^. Por último y en lo que se refiere a las relaciones existentes entre la extrema derecha civil y las Fuerzas Armadas, hemos de recordar que la Unión Patriótica asignó a los Ejércitos «una función vigilante sobre la evolución de la vida política y social», idea que harían suya otras organizaciones de extrema derecha durante los años venideros^^. En estos momentos desconocemos cuál fue evolución de la extrema derecha militar durante la «dictablanda» y el gobierno Aznar, pues los estudios publicados hasta la fecha no han analizado ni las ideas ni el papel jugado por este sector de las Fuerzas Armadas durante los meses comprendidos entre la dimisión de Primo de Rivera y la proclamación de la Segunda República. Habría que estudiar principalmente un diario político-militar tan señalado como La Correspondencia Militar^^
