Abstract

This text identifies the aspects and characteristics of mathematics teacher professionalization expressed in the legal and regulatory frameworks of the Peruvian public education system. In these regulatory frameworks, the professional is characterized by various qualities, such as: mechanisms of entry into the profession, precise mathematical knowledge, code of professional morals, degree of freedom of practice organized in professional associations, specific working conditions, public opinion and prestige. The description of the educational system also highlights the variety of aspects that teachers entering the public system must comply with, as well as the importance given by the Peruvian State to safeguarding the language and culture of the native peoples.
