Abstract

Matching training to employment in educational reform in Benin: contribution to the development of a new educational model – For a long time, the world of education and training and that of employment have operated in parallel, the former training young people while hoping that the latter would find a way to employ them. Today, in light of increasing levels of youth unemployment, educational reform efforts, in Benin as elsewhere, have come to strongly emphasise the question of employability. It is within this framework that this paper proposes to study the case of Benin, drawing on a body of existing data, in order to develop a “clean-break” educational model based on a holistic vision articulating formal and non-formal education, and to identify successful training-professional integration pathways, among which young people can choose after completing their basic education, according to their skills and aspirations.
