Bertha of the Big Foot’s story, which was very successful from the first half of the 12th century to the 17th century, sets, in French tradition, female protagonists in the heart of the action and the denouement of the story, by means of speech use. That is the reason why we will analyze the phenomena of acculturation in discursive strategies and the effects produced during the characters’ floor taking in the versified version of Adenet le Roi, Berte as grans piés, and its prosification, l’Histoire de la Reine Berthe et du Roy Pepin. On the one hand, a quantitative approach will allow us to compare the different versions of the discursive presence of the characters according to gender and on the other hand, the analysis of pragmatic-textual indicators (interjections, phatic indicators) and semantic indicators (hyperboles, lexical repetitions, tautologies) will highlight the contrasted oppositions that are present in the characters’ speech and the value conferred by these phenomena.
