Abstract

This article examines Felipe Senillosa’s Gramática Española (1817) within the framework of school grammars written following the principles of General grammars. It presents, from a glottopolitical perspective, the effect of these school grammars on the process of building of Nation States. It then studies the theoretical and pedagogical options that the Gramática Española offers and discusses its syntactic aspects, particularly those which concern the clause. The article closes by focusing on grammatical and logical analysis, and points out which criteria and operations reappear in later texts, namely school grammars within a structuralist tradition.
