Abstract

Edmond Jacob : The Cornerstone of Isaiah 28 :16 and its Echoes in the New Testament. Although it is set in a context of judgment, this oracle of salvation has its place in the theology of Isaiah. The construction of which the stone is to be the foundation is not the Temple but rather the Davidic dynasty with its messianic consummation. Faith, as a response to the divine initiative, is an attitude of trust in the work of God, which will be carried out in spite of the upheavals in the contemporary history of the prophet. The New Testament interprets the verse christologically and applies the symbolism of the stone to the person of Christ and to the community of believers.
