Abstract
<p>The aim of this paper is to show that most of the research on phraseology has focused in recent decades on the syntax that governs both internal and external combinatorics. The semantic analyses have been limited to semantism excluding co(n)text. In this article, we try to show how phraseologisms, as units of the third articulation of language, have the inherent semantic trait of a semantic incompleteness which complement cotexts and contexts. In addition, there is very little research into the cultural dimension.</p>

Summary
Qu’elles traitent du figement en général ou de certains types de séquences, s’intéressent presque exclusivement à la dimension syntaxique. Si l’on excepte les travaux précurseurs de Gréciano (1983) sur la sémantique des expressions idiomatiques et ceux qui ont porté sur la sémantique des expressions parémiques (Anscombre, 2000; Kleiber, 2000; Conenna, 2000; Tamba, 2000), force nous est de constater que la combinatoire externe (cotexte) et les éléments énonciatifs qui interviennent dans la structuration du sens des phraséologismes ont été abordés d’une manière parcellaire. Cela a d’abord concerné les relations sémantiques entre le sens des constituants et le sens global, souvent traduites en termes de compositionnalité et non-compositionnalité, se servant des règles de la compositionnalité des séquences libres qui consistent à calculer le sens, conformément aux règles de la combinatoire syntaxique, à partir des sens respectifs des éléments qui interviennent dans la formation des phraséologismes. Si ce n’est pas le cas, on est dans un sens non-compositionnel. (1) et (2) marquent cette opposition :
