Abstract

This article consists of a detailed lexicological and lexicographical study of the different terms given to the Jewish pot for Sabbath in Spanish, such as adafina, ḥamin, caliente(s), and other lesser known variants. This dish was a fundamental differentiating and discerning socio-religious element in the Jewish and Converso population of the Middle Ages. We propose the inclusion of ḥamin and caliente(s) in the Dictionary of the Real Academia Espanola (DRAE) and the other main lexicographical collections of medieval and modern Spanish.
