Abstract

This paper compares the fragments of Aeschylus' Ψυχαγωγοί with the Homeric Nekyia. It seems indeed that the dramatist has drawn inspiration from the Odyssey XI. However, even if he takes for himself many homeric details, Aeschylus is not an ordinary imitator : he brings about variants which cause an effect of distance with regard to the epic episode and which reveal the process of tragic rewriting.
