Abstract

Mira de Amescua’s play Examinarse de rey or Mas vale fingir que amar has a positive and triumphant message, where woman defeats evil through love. Amescua draws the outline of the seventeenth century’s upper class woman accurately. He analizes not only her education, her main rooms, her evil doings and deceit, but also her lovers and the love code they use, her virtue, beauty, cruelty and love which finally brings the main character to a happy ending in the comedy.
