Abstract

AbstractRheumatoid hand is a daily physiotherapy motive of attention. Having regard to this, we have revised in this work those aspects than could be useful for assessment and treatment. Methodologybibliographic review from several data base (Cochrane, PEDro, Medline and OT seeker), books and some articles of interest. Resultsthere are no specific assessment scales validated in Spain. Tools used usually by physiotherapists (strength, oedema grade, pain, range of motion, handiness for dailyactivities), are recommended by some authors to control patient's evolution. We discus other functional indexes of assessment more specifics, as well. Referred to treatment, the systematic review of the methods proposed by classical literature are not conclusive. Even the methodological limitations of the analyzed works we can conclude that methods with greater scientific evidence to be applied in rheumatoid hand are laser, electrical stimulation, electrical acupuncture and ultrasound waves. Conclusionsthere is need of more studies that support physical therapy activity in the way of assessment scales and treatment modalities in the rheumatoid hand world.
